NEGLECTED PHILOSOPHERS OF STRUGGLE

Keynote Speaker: Juliet Hooker (Brown University)

The work of neglected philosophers and how their work is related to philosophies born of struggle. A neglected philosopher can be (a) someone who is not normally considered a philosopher, (b) someone whose work has not been duly acknowledged for its philosophical contributions, or (c) someone who is neither considered a philosopher nor has had their work duly acknowledged for its philosophical contributions. Among those who can be considered neglected philosophers are, for example, M. Jacqui Alexander, Tanella Boni, Lydia Cabrera, Luisa Capetillo, Carlos A. Cooks, Joyce Mitchell Cook, Bachir Souleymane Diagne, William H. Ferris, Édouard Glissant, Eugene C. Holmes, William R. Jones, Jamaica Kincaid, Mahmoud Mamdani, Albert Memmi, Es’kia Mphahlele, José Esteban Munoz, Derek Walcott, and Sylvia Wynter.

Submission Guidelines: Please submit either 1) a paper abstract of approximately 500 words, 2) a roundtable or panel abstract of approximately 500 words, or 3) a complete paper no longer than 3000 words (excluding notes and bibliography) as a Microsoft Word document to PBSconference@gmail.com by August 31, 2019.
